HAINAN Airlines will open two intercontinental routes from Shenzhen to two European cities, Madrid and Brussels, in late March.
The first flight to Brussels is scheduled for March 20. The flight will operate every Tuesday and Thursday.
Flight HU759 leaves Shenzhen at 12 p.m. and arrives in the Belgian capital at 5:30 p.m. The return flight leaves Brussels at 7:30 p.m. and arrives in Shenzhen at 1:50 p.m. the following day.
The flight from Shenzhen to Madrid will be launched March 22. It will operate twice a week from Shenzhen, on Thursdays and Sundays, and the trip will take 14 hours and 15 minutes.
The return flight from Madrid will operate every Monday and Friday and it will take 13 hours and 5 minutes.
Besides the two routes, Hainan Airlines will open a Shenzhen-Tianjin-Vancouver route in the first half of the year.
According to an agreement signed by Hainan Airlines and Shenzhen Municipal Transport Commission, the airline will open at least one intercontinental route and two international routes a year from Shenzhen during the 13th Five Year Plan period. At present Hainan Airlines is operating three intercontinental routes and seven international routes from Shenzhen.
By the end of January, the flight between Shenzhen and Auckland, New Zealand, which Hainan Airlines opened at the end of 2016, had transported 49,070 passengers, and the flight between Shenzhen and Brisbane, Australia, Hainan Airlines' other intercontinental route at the Shenzhen airport, carried 10,213 passengers since it was inaugurated in September last year.
Statistics showed that in 2017 airlines opened 16 international air routes from Shenzhen to world cities, including Melbourne and Moscow, bringing the number of international routes to 36.
The international passenger turnover at the Shenzhen airport reached 2.95 million in 2017, an increase of 32.4 percent over the previous year.
