SZ ranks top in economic competitiveness

SHENZHEN ranked No. 1 in comprehensive economic competitiveness for the year 2017, according to a report jointly released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Economic Daily recently.

The other cities in the top-10 list include Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei, Guangzhou, Beijing, Tianjin, Suzhou, Nanjing and Wuhan.

Except Wuhan, the other nine top-10 cities are mainly located in economically developed regions such as the Pearl River Delta area, the Yangtze River Delta area and the Bohai Coastal area.

Compared to the same list in 2016, the ranking of the top five cities remain unchanged. But the rankings between No. 6 and 10 had greatly changed. Beijing replaced Tianjin for the sixth place, Suzhou advanced to the eighth, while Nanjing entered the top 10 for the first time.

The report, which evaluates a city by economic strength, talents introduction and industrial relocation, showed that cities in Central China are rising, the gap between the south and north of China are increasing, and the industrial reconstructing and integration between eastern and central cities of China is accelerating.

In other categories, Hong Kong ranked top in terms of sustainable competitiveness and livable competitiveness, while Shenzhen ranks fourth and 10th.
